What causes blocked drains?
There are any reasons why your drains become blocked in and around your business or home and usually they are down to human error. Flushing non flushable items such as toilet wipes, baby wipes, sanitary products and dental floss can block your drains easily. The other most common cause is not disposing of cooking fat, oil and greases (FOG’s) correctly – once tipped down the sink, they cool and solidify to combine with other waste materials and cause blockages.
Other external factors also contribute to blocked drains, such as root ingress, or root infestation or collapsed sewers and structural damage from roads etc.
Is my drain blocked?
Blocked drains are easily identified. The obvious signs you will notice include gurgling pipes, foul smelling odours from drains or plug holes and slow draining water in sinks and baths.
Once noticed, a quick and easy method to identify the cause of the problem is to have a CCTV Drainage Survey carried out.
CCTV Drainage Survey – Is it necessary?
A CCTV drain survey is the best and least disruptive way to identify what is continually causing your drain to block. Blockages caused by root ingress or a sewer collapse for instance are not obviously discovered without a survey.
Once the problem is identified the necessary remedial works can be undertaken to leave your drainage system flowing freely.
Drain Relining – What is it?
Drain relining is often used to repair drains and sewers that have been damaged by external influences such as root ingress, building work or a hard substance such as foundation concrete or grout that has entered the drain. Relining creates a new, smooth surface, within the old one to allow wastewater to flow unimpeded. It is generally carried out when all other solutions have been exhausted.
